Our May CloseBy® Spotlight is Birds and Beasts Pet Shop in Crystal Lake, IL! Birds and Beasts Pet Shop signed up for CloseBy® Text Marketing in December 2012, looking for the perfect way to connect with customers instantly and ramp up business. Over the years, they’ve worked hard to build an impressive list of 2,200 loyal subscribers. We spoke with the store’s manager, Brandon Hicks, to learn all about their tips for success!

Q: What do you think has been the best way to promote the program for your type of business?
“We have found that the best way to promote the program is through staff involvement—making sure our staff ASKS EVERY CUSTOMER who comes into the store. We have signs up in the store but we have found that actually talking to our customers about the program is a better way for them to take action and join.”
Q: What was the biggest reason you signed up for the text program?
“We signed up for the text program back in 2012 and have been super happy with the consistent results we see from the program month over month. We were initially looking for a way to connect with our customers INSTANTLY, when we needed to drive business quickly, or move inventory! The cost of the premium text program is super low when you compare it to other forms of marketing and advertising. Also with text marketing you can send a different text message each week and with different information and content.”
Q: Have you found the program easy to use?
“CloseBy® Text Marketing is so very EASY to use – not only for us as business owners but for our customers! It is super easy for customers to opt in to the text program whether they have a smart phone or an older flip phone. The online system is very user-friendly which makes scheduling and sending messages a breeze. We also love having an Account Manager who can also help us send text messages – she is always full of ideas and content for us!”
Q: What has the text program done for your business?
“CloseBy® pays for itself over and over again – we have customers come in and say we received your text! We have found that when we send a text we always have bigger sales days and better overall communication with our customers. Even informational messages are a great way to keep our business name top of mind with our customers and also informational messages drive in sales!”
